Problems With Subsidence?

Most properties in the United Kingdom will have suffered some form of subsidence during their lifetime. Much of this is caused by problems with the foundations of the building, or perhaps a problem with the drains. In fact a lot of London homes that were built at the turn of the century were built on clay and therefore don't actually have any foundations which is why victorian and edwardian homes tend to suffer most from subsidence problems. If you own a property that has a structural problem it will be impossible to sell it to a buyer that is borrowing money against it. The first thing that a survey will say is that it eeds to be looked at by a structural engineer and then your problems begin. In any event a property that has an ongoing problem with subsidence will also be impossible to insure until the problem has been remedied.

As we have said most properties have had some sort of structural movement which is normally visible by things like cracks in plasterwork or external brickwork and sticking doors and windows. Structural damage can even be caused by tree roots damaging the drains which over a period of time is damaging to the foundations of your building. Properties with these types of problems will be impossible to sell to a buyer unless they are cash buyers and are familiar with the remedial works necessary to fix the problem.
